STREAMLINE BUSINESS BREAKFAST CELEBRATES
 LOCAL SUSTAINABILTY

Parramatta and Auburn businesses will be recognised for their contribution towards reducing water and energy use and minimising waste production in one of Sydney's most significant industrial hubs at a special breakfast event on Wednesday, 2 June 2010.

The Streamline Business Breakfast will mark six months since the launch of Streamline, a sustainable business program initiated by Parramatta and Auburn City Councils to help businesses in the Duck River Catchment achieve financial, social and environmental sustainability. Ahead of World Environment Day on 5 June, the event will provide an opportunity for participating businesses to network and hear from environmental leaders including the Head of Sustainability for Lend Lease Asia Pacific, Cate Collins.

Parramatta City Council Lord Mayor, Cr Paul Garrard, said the councils had been encouraged by the response from the business community since the launch of Streamline on 10 December 2009. "More than 120 businesses have now registered to participate in Streamline and the breakfast is a great opportunity to not only thank those participants, but also encourage other like-minded businesses in the Duck River Catchment to join the program to show their commitment to sustainable growth of the local area," Cr Garrard said.

The first program of its kind in the area, Streamline offers businesses the chance to take part in a range of sustainability activities, including the streamline business program, waste exchange program, water and energy use assessments.

In addition to Ms Collins' keynote address, the Streamline Business Breakfast will feature a talk from David Clark, the General Manager of local business and Streamline participant, EarthPower. Breakfast guests will also hear from Paul Mulley from Sydney Water; Mark Jackson from Food Waste Avoidance Program, Department of Environment Climate Change and Water (DECCW); and Sue Akeroyd from Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program DECCW.

"The breakfast is an ideal occasion for local businesses and program supporters to celebrate the progress of Streamline  and discuss new sustainable business developments in energy, waste and water on the eve of World Environment Day," Auburn City Council Mayor, Hicham Zraika said.

The Streamline Business Breakfast will take place at Rydges Hotel Parramatta on Wednesday, 2 June from 8.30am - 10am.
