The Streamline Program seeks to increase awareness of sustainable transport options and smart commuting. In this stream, businesses are given the information they need to provide employees with a range of sustainable transport options for the commute to and from work.
Sustainable transport options help to reduce fuel costs, save money, reduce air pollution, and, in many cases, to improve employee health. Such options include:
To reduce air pollution by limiting vehicle emissions, Streamline businesses are encouraged to visit the Office of Environment & Heritage (OEH) Lets Clean the Air website.
This website will be updated to show other OEH sustainability initiatives.
Travel Plans and Teleworking
Many businesses are developing business-specific travel plans, which contain resources, activities and initiatives to encourage employees to make use of sustainable transport options. For example, businesses can encourage employees to cycle to work by taking active steps to make workplaces more cycling-friendly. A Travel Plan template is available to download free of charge through the Bicycle NSW website Travel Plan Template (doc).
Teleworking is a work practice that offers benefits to business and the community. By working from home or a location close to home (telecentre) on an occasional or regular basis, employees are able to reduce their commute travel emissions and manage their work outputs more effectively. Further information is available by visiting the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) teleworking section of their website.
A Teleworking Manual is available for free download through the RTA.
